The Traffic Light Communication Tool
The Health, Functioning and Wellbeing Summary, known as the ‘Traffic Light Tool’, was designed to help families to get their concerns across the doctors when they to go a clinic with their disabled child.
The tool allows the child and family to easily present what is going well, what they want to change for the child and any concerns they would like to discuss. It also has a list of conditions or symptoms which the family can rate as red (serious concerns), Amber (some concerns) or green (no concerns). This could easily be adapted for a mental health setting.
We like it because it is very easy to use and accessible for younger children and their families.
The tool begins by celebrating the things that are going well.
The tool was developed with disabled young people, parents, and other experts. It was written by Dr Karen Horridge, Paediatrician and published by disability charity SCOPE (scope.org.uk).Download Resource
